The Victory Monument of Lao P.D.R is named Patuxai, meaning Victory Gate. This war monument has been built in the late 50’s and 60’s, to commemorate the ones who fought in the struggle for independence from France. The Patuxai arch resembles the Arc de Triomphe in Paris. It is one of the main sightseeing in Vientiane with the Pha That Luang. Its architecture is Laotian and it is decorated with mythological creatures such as the kinnari.
You can hang out near the fountain where a water and musical show happens in the afternoons, have an ice-cream at the café, jog around the monument or simply visit it and shop for some souvenirs or leave your mark (preferably your initials with your lover’s).
How to go there?
The Patuxai is located at the end of Lang Xang Avenue in the heart of Vientiane. Patuxay Park surrounds the monument.
