Nelson Mandela is dead

The former South-African president, and inspiration of the whole rainbow nation, Nelson Mandela died Thursday at age 95. Mandiba guided his country from the shackles of apartheid to multi-racial democracy. He has spent almost 30 years in prison because of his fight against white minority rule. President Obama declared: “Today he’s gone home, and we’ve lost one of the most influential, courageous and profoundly good human beings that any of us will share time with on this earth”.

“Tireless fighter of apartheid, he has floored by his courage, persistence and perseverance,” wrote François Hollande, noting that “despite the personal hardships and humiliations of his detention that lasted 27 years, he was able to not only reverse a despicable regime, but reconcile South Africans and uphold democracy. “According to the President of the French Republic, “Nelson Mandela was during all these years the incarnation of the South African nation, cement unity and pride in all of Africa.”
