Bangkok Foodie: Bangkok Burger Company, Mega Bangna
My first experience with Bangkok Burger Company was few years ago in the flagship restaurant, in Thong Lor soi 10. It was great and I always wanted to go back. This time, I’ve tried their Mega Bangna branch. Bangkok’s only gourmet burgers are said to be found in Bangkok Burger Company (BBC). But is it worth the bill?
How does it look like?
Sadly as we went to eat after the lunch rush, the place was quite empty. The location is a bit hidden (not far from Ikea) and I guess it doesn’t get much people coming and going. The interior could be summed up with American minimalism. The burgers and cow paintings give it a nice quirk. I do feel though that the atmosphere was much more “American” and pleasant in the Thong Lor location.
How do they treat you?
The staff was friendly but didn’t speak good English. Few items on the menu weren’t available and the burgers took some time to arrive.
How is the food?
We had regular size El Mexicana and the Camemburger. We had the choice of meat (pork or beef), bun and the some side dishes and sauces.
The burgers were juicy and delicious. I wish they had just a little bit more contrast in flavor. Maybe more heat for the Mexican inspired one. The cornichon on top brought up some crunchiness to the French one, but the camembert melted too fast and only few traces of it was left on the bun. As a French guy who loves cheese, I would have liked it a bit stronger.
The curly fries were crispy and not too greasy. As for the manao soda, it was very sour, which I enjoyed but I guess that for the Thai palate it should have been a bit sweeter.
Here is a picture of the menu. As you can see prices ranges from 250 (for a regular size, as seen on picture) to 350-400 for the large version. You need to add around 70 bahts for fries and 30-60 for sauces or other side dishes.
The food was good but I believe that the Mega Bangna branch should step it up a notch to compare to the other shops. I would definetly go back for a burger in BBC but probably in Thong Lor or the newest Paragon branch.
Check out this video which presents how they make their burgers:
